Jonathan Palmer Lakeland (Associate Director, GSA) is a British-American conductor, répétiteur/coach, and recital accompanist whose work has been described as “pointed and dramatic” (Robert Hugill, PlanetHugill), and as “wordless eloquence…he supported the singers with both brio and sensitivity, clearly relishing his involvement in the dramatic narrative” (Margaret Tattersall, The Herald, Stratford-upon-Avon).
Jonathan is active as a freelance conductor, assistant conductor, chorus master, and coach for opera companies in Europe and North America including Theater an der Wien, Northern Ireland Opera, Royal Academy Opera, and Tanglewood Music Center/Opera. As a recitalist, he has appeared at venues including Wigmore Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Champs Hill (Sussex), the Oxford Lieder Festival, the Leeds Lieder Festival, and SJE Arts Oxford. He has worked as a vocal coach at conservatoires/opera companies for more than ten years at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music (London), Westminster Choir College (Princeton), Rowan University, and Ramapo College, among others.
Jonathan received his master’s from the Royal Academy of Music London, where he studied with Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake, and Michael Dussek.
