Who should apply to the Solti Accademia’s Bel Canto Course?

The Georg Solti Accademia’s Bel Canto course for singers is an intense, professional experience which helps outstanding young opera singers to connect with and learn from accomplished opera singers, conductors, and coaches. The 2022 Faculty includes Jonathan Papp (GSA Artistic Director), Barbara Frittoli, Richard Bonynge, Leo Nucci, Stefano Baldasseroni, and more.

This course is most suitable for young singers who are in/completed either a conservatory or a young artist programme, and/or are in the early stage of their careers.

To Apply to the Georg Solti Accademia’s Bel Canto Course for Singers:

To apply to the Georg Solti Accademia’s Bel Canto Course for Singers, you must complete the online YAPTracker application form (see button below) and supply the following additional materials:

  • Names and contact information for two references that can speak to your professionalism, musical ability, and character.
  • Two video recordings of you performing two arias from the Italian opera repertoire written by an Italian composer after 1810 (ie Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo, etc). If you wish, one of these recordings may be a standalone song by one of the composers above or another Italian composer such as Tosti, Respighi, etc. The repertoire must be sung in Italian and be composed by an Italian composer. Arias by Mozart and Handel will not be accepted for the purposes of this application.

By the end of December 2021, applicants will be notified whether or not they have progressed to the next round of auditions.

Audition Information:

Round One – Online Application via YAP Tracker & Pre-Screening Recordings

Round Two (by invitation) – London, UK – Dates TBA (final week of January, 2022)

If an applicant is invited to the second round of auditions but is unable to travel to London, they will be offered the opportunity to complete the audition online.

Audition Requirements (Round Two):

Those applicants invited to progress to round two of our auditions will be asked to present three arias, or two arias and one song (as above). All audition pieces must be from the Italian opera repertoire, written by an Italian composer after 1810 and be sung in Italian (ie. Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, etc).

The same repertoire from Round One maybe used in Round Two, with the addition of an extra aria, or song. Note: All repertoire must be sung in Italian. As with the pre-screening materials, arias by Handel or Mozart are not acceptable.
