Every year the GSA Bel Canto summer school in Castiglione della Pescaia, Tuscany, offers up to twelve young singers a fully-funded, three-week immersion in Italian opera singing, with a focus on language, style and technique in the 19th and early 20th century Italian repertoire.

The path to becoming a fully-professional opera singer is a long process which demands commitment, dedication and continual development throughout one’s career. The full immersion in “bel canto” music and the Italian way of life that the Georg Solti Accademia provides gives its students a unique experience, with a lasting impact on their future careers. Further, by inviting and attracting faculty some of the world’s greatest opera singers, conductors, coaches, and professionals to join our faculty and leadership team, the Accademia seeks to stay at the fore-front of professional opera training- providing students with the tailored musical/vocal coaching and individual attention they need in order to become the best opera singers they can be.

Many of our students have already gone on to impressive professional careers with appearances at venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne Opera, Royal Opera House, Washington National Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Royal Swedish Opera, Hamburg State Opera, La Monnaie, Paris Opera, Vlaamse Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Salzburg Festival and English National Opera. For more information about alumni, see our Singers Alumni page.

Further opportunities

As part of the GSA ‘family’ our alumni have been offered opportunities to perform in venues as large as the Royal Albert Hall (with Jose Carreras), in both New York’s Carnegie Hall and Symphony Hall in Chicago (with Valery Gergiev and the World Orchestra for Peace) to venues as intimate as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Roman Theatre in Fiesole, the Teatre Akademia in Barcelona, the Fondazione Cini in Venice and the Teatre della Reggia in Caserta. Here at the Accademia, we strive to help our alumni make professional connections with industry professionals, musicians, and philanthropists that can go on to greatly help them in their own careers.
